Towards a participatory research method to understand societal and economic implications of emerging digital technology infrastructures

AI infrastructure walks are a participatory research method that allows community members to collectively observe, map, and reflect on nearby physical footprints of digital technologies. Work-in-progress is currently under way to design these methods for diverse audiences, ranging from high school students to domain experts. The initiative aims to develop a participatory framework to study emerging data transfer, processing, and storage infrastructures. Preliminary data walks have taken place in Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, and Kleve (Germany), as well as in Copenhagen (Denmark) and Amsterdam (Netherlands).
